Folding@Home Milestone: 10 Million Points

A milestone in protein folding today as I hit 10 million points in about two years of effort.  Cumulatively, I’m number 608 on the leader board out of 1,421,000 contributors to Folding@Home with a run-rate in the top 200.

I’ll never get to the top of the leader board; that’s pretty well held down by 350,000 anonymous Sony PS/3 contributors.

What is protein folding?
Proteins are biology’s workhorses — its “nanomachines.” Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or “fold.” The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.
